Check That Their Identification Is Up-to-Date
Ensuring that your pet always wears an ID tag and having them microchipped is great. But those efforts will fall flat if you fail to keep the contact information up-to-date. Check your pet’s identification tag and log into the account for their microchip this month to make sure all of your contact information is current. And if updates need to be made, take care of them right away.
Create an Emergency Kit
If you don’t already have an emergency kit for your pets, this month is the perfect time to make one. It does not need to be fancy, but it should contain everything you would need to care for your pet in the event of an emergency. Make sure your pet’s kit contains:
- Copies of important documents, like vaccination records, health history, and a recent picture
- A five-day supply of water and food for each pet in your family
- Extra litter boxes, litter, bowls, collars, and leashes
- Sturdy carriers for smaller pets
- A pet first aid kit
- A list of places (hotels, shelters, etc.) you can take your pet if you need to evacuate
