Dr. Balasundar Dodda

Veterinarian

DVM, MVSc, PhD

Dr. Bala has 4+ years of veterinary clinical experience, primarily in small animal medicine and pocket pets such as rats, mice, guinea pigs, hamsters, gerbils, chinchillas, and rabbits. He grew up in rural India with farm animals and pets. He earned his DVM and Masters in Veterinary Pharmacology degrees from A. N. G. R. Agricultural University in India. He moved to the United States in 2007 to attend Duquesne University in Pittsburgh and graduated with a Ph.D. in Pharmacology and Toxicology.

After graduation, he started his career in cancer research and development in contract research organizations and the pharmaceutical industry. While doing so, he occasionally volunteered in animal shelters and private veterinary practices in Pennsylvania. During his research career, he contributed his expertise to the development of human cancer drugs for lung cancer, melanoma, and breast cancer. He has been passionate about translating such advances in human medicine to our veterinary patients through strict adherence to preventative care and evidence-based medicine. His other passions are mastering internal medicine, soft tissue surgeries, emergency medicine in small animals, and small mammal medicine.

Dr. Bala lives with his wife Neelima, two boys (Smayan and Swithun), guinea pigs (Beaver and Chacolate), rabbit (Stripe), and aquarium fish. He prefers to spend his leisure time outdoors traveling, gardening, camping, hiking, and fishing.

Jeanne Gentry

Director of Operations

Jeanne started at VetCheck in June 2019 and is a lead technician. She has been in the veterinary field for 19 years, starting out as a kennel assistant. Jeanne is married with two kids - a daughter and a son - and one fur baby (for now) who is an 80-pound mixed breed named Duke. Jeanne has also owned cats, dogs, a rabbit, a hamster, lizards, birds, and fish while having some experience with ferrets. While a pygmy goat is on her want list, she will settle for more cats and dogs. In her spare time, she likes to either spend time with family at home or go to the gym for a good workout session.

During her years of experience, she is always learning something new every day and has developed a liking for behavior and learning more of a “fear free” approach with her patients. At a very young age, she knew her love and passion for animals would lead her to the veterinary field and she has no regrets. Jeanne can’t wait to see your fur babies!

Taylor Bowlin

Office Manager

Taylor Bowlin became part of the VetCheck team in early 2020. This is her first job in the veterinary field, and she thoroughly enjoys spoiling pets while in our care. Taylor plans to make veterinary medicine her career path by transitioning into the business and development side of operations.

Her goals are to provide reassurance, compassion, love, and support for patients and their owners. She understands the stress a medical emergency can bring to your family and wants to be our clients support system during any visit.

Outside of work, Taylor enjoys spending time with friends, family, her fiancé, Zach, and their two dogs, Tonka and Hank. In her free time, she loves renovating their new home, watching HGTV, traveling, trying new recipes, and baking.
