Make an Evacuation Plan

You should never leave a pet behind if you have to evacuate. Doing so could be a death sentence for your companion. At the very least, you are unlikely to be reunited with them if you leave them. As an animal owner, it’s up to you to have an evacuation plan that includes your pet

Research pet-friendly shelters and hotels in your area and along the route you’d likely follow if ordered to evacuate. Talk to relatives, friends, and co-workers, too, to see if there is anyone who could care for your pet if you needed to leave and couldn’t take them with you.

Put Together an Emergency Kit

If you don’t already have an emergency kit for your pet, now is time to make one. You don’t need anything fancy. A large backpack filled with the following pet-care essentials is perfect.

Schedule a Vet Visit

Talking to your pet’s vet is an excellent way to get more tips about preparing for disasters. If your furry friend is due for a checkup or you need advice about caring for them in the event of an emergency, give us a call now.
